First leg of the journey: Milwaukee to Portland

I am moving to Korea. I quit my job, cancelled my cell phone, gave up my apartment, gathered my belongings, and said a few good byes. On February 4, I am leaving Milwaukee.

I am moving to a city called Daejeon where I will be living for the next year and working as an English teacher through a program sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education called EPIK.

Instead of following the instructions I got from my EPIK contact and flying to Korea in late February out of Chicago and using the travel agent that they provided I have decided to have some fun.

I am giving my sister my car while I am in Korea and I need to get it to her. My brother, Erik, has offered to come with me for the trip out west. Plans got tossed around: ice climbing in Colorado and Wyoming, rock climbing in Utah and California or skiing in Utah and Colorado and then my brother reminded me that he doesn't climb and skiing won't save us any money.

We thought some more about we could do and Erik came up with an awesome idea: Man vs Food road trip. We are hitting some of the places highlighted on the show as we drive cross country and we'll hopefully find new places during our travels as well.

I'll be back in a few pounds and a few thousand miles...

  1. I was forwarded your blog from Luanne Theisen...I am a friend of her daughter Ellyn's. I am living in Jeonju...about 30 miles South of You. I have a blog too, narconis.blogspot.com. We should meet up sometime...I think it's only 8000won or so in either direction. I live on the "State Street" of my city, and Daejeon has a Costco and my friend Sinwoo, good draws both directions.
